The C Max is a compact crossover built by Ford; with the introduction of the S Max it means the C Max is the smallest MPV in Ford's line up. The C Max has been in production since 2003 albeit as the Focus C Max as it was based predominantly on the Ford Focus. The 2010 C Max is still based on the Focus but Ford is trying to create a separate audience for the C Max; it is aimed at young families that need to fit baby seats and buggies. What makes the C Max unique from most of its competitors is that it is available as a 7 seater in the form of the Grand C Max.Ford claim that the new Ford C Max will save the owner £800 a year compared to the current model, this claim is based on the fact that the new C Max comes under a lower insurance group, has lower CO2 emissions and has enhanced fuel economy. The new C Max comes with a few engine options, there are 3 petrol engines to choose from a 99bhp 1.6, a 123bhp 1.8 and a 143bhp 2.0-litre. All the petrol engines are paired up to a five speed manual gearbox, the 2.0 litre is available with an automatic gearbox. There are also three diesel engines to choose from, a 108bhp 1.6 TDCi, a 114bhp 1.8 or 134bhp 2.0-litre. The smaller diesel produces enough power smooth while being the most economical, the bigger diesels are faster and produce a lot of torque. Like the petrol engines the diesel are mated to a 5 speed manual but the 2.0 litre is available with an automatic gearbox.A Ford C Max dealership in Kent has indicated that the new C Max will be priced from £16,745 and £18,745 for the Ford Grand C-MAX Zetec.
