Toyota surpasses GM in the first half of 2011
If 2008 marked the passing of the General Motors Toyota in the ranking of the world's largest producers of cars, the 2011 could see the American group to go first. Not only that Toyota, which is still paying the consequences of the terrible earthquake that hit Japan in March, could go directly from first to third place, overtaken by an increasingly aggressive Volkswagen Group.
Revised goals. According to data reported by the House, in the first six months of the year, GM sold 4.54 million units worldwide (+8.9% over the same period of 2010), compared with 4.13 million of the Volkswagen Group (+14.3%) and 3.71 million from Toyota (including Lexus brands, Daihatsu and Hino). The Japanese manufacturer said that the production will return to pre-earthquake in September, but has revised downward its annual objectives of 6% compared with forecasts made in December last year: the aim now is to production of 7.15 million units in 2011, compared to 8.04 before the earthquake imagined. Now it is likely that the ranking does not change the world than that of the first six months of the year: GM first, second VW, Toyota third. The goal of the Volkswagen Group to become the first manufacturer in the world in 2018 now seems even more at your fingertips.
